This is a short, massively off-topic, and somewhat late post, but I just wanted to voice my deep sadness at the loss of our Togmeister, Sir Terry Wogan.
I’m not normally the sentimental sort that wells up overthrow passing of a “celebrity” that I’ve never met, but Sir Terry’s passing has deeply saddened me. I think this is for two reasons.
Firstly, he’s been a part of my entire life – school, university, the passing of my dear dear Gran, starting work, marriage, joys and despairs of our pregnancies- right through until his retirement from breakfast.
Secondly because his wit and intelligence was only matched by his innate niceness, by every account I can find. The man I grew up listening to and really connected with was actually who he was, and that’s exceptionally rare.
I’ve also been a huge fan of Eurovision all my life, thanks to the music when I was a kid but it was Terry that kept me interested and amused as I grew up. (Same goes for Children in Need!)
So now, nearly a week after his passing I find myself still upset knowing that he’s no longer with us.
He wouldn’t want a fuss – mustn’t grumble, after all – but the world is just a little bit less happy without our Togmeister.
Rest in Peace Sir Tel. From your listener.
