It seems like everywhere I look this week there are tributes to the late Steve Jobs, and quite right too. So here’s mine.
The innovation and creativity that Steve has generated at Apple have not just defined the way our generation communicates, interacts with media and looks at the entire world of IT, but he has also laid the foundation for the future of education around the world.
From the innovative uses that the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch can be put to, to the delivery of content via iTunesU, and a whole new way to look at software development, there isn’t an area of education that isn’t already benefiting from the insight of this great man.
I will readily admit I’m a bit of an Apple geek, but I don’t believe that especially colours my view of how much the man’s impact has been felt within the education sector.
I know that I will miss his insights and his stage presence at Apple’s keynotes, but his legacy within the company he built from nothing will go on and hopefully will continue to push the boundaries of how we view the way we teach and learn.
Steve, you are missed.
